There will be a tour of the Gardens on Sunday March 26th 2006 and then  throughout the year there will be  tours every Thursday and Sunday at 2.30pm.

Until 2004  the gardens were in private ownership. Now, the museum is working with historic garden experts and archaeologists to restore these gardens to their full splendour and, in the short term, make them ready and safe for public visitors as soon as possible.

These serene gardens were originally laid out 300 years ago by Charles Blosse. They include a peaceful walled garden, water features with an impressive lake and a lily pond, and large lawns near a private Grade II listed house.

The large lake and canals, hidden from the main house, are one of its most unusual and magnificent features. Charles Blosse was following the height of fashion when he created a wide grassy promenade along the edge of a formal rectangular water feature. The lake even has an island with a summerhouse so the family could have their afternoon tea in complete comfort.

Other features that should not be missed include the colonies of snowdrops and daffodils that make such an impressive show in the Spring, the 1870's deluxe stables near the house and established trees throughout the grounds. The gardens already have a delightful atmosphere with many contrasting parts.

Abbot’s Hall Gardens have been sleeping and hidden; now they are being nurtured back into life and discovered anew.
