Supported Volunteering and Therapeutic Placements
The museum offers supported volunteering opportunities and therapeutic placements for people with disabilities, learning difficulties and mental health problems and for people who have found themselves at a social disadvantage for one reason or another. Getting involved in volunteering is a great way for people to learn new things, meet new people and have fun! It can help build independence, self confidence and a sense of responsibility. And of course, it contributes to the life of the community.
If you feel you would benefit from getting involved or if you are a carer or care organisation looking for opportunities for people, please get in touch.
We are currently working in partnership with Activities Unlimited – a Suffolk County Council initiative under the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme, so we are particularly interested to hear from young people or their carers. Activities Unlimited was specifically created to provide a series of recreational activities for young people; it’s open to 14 – 24 year olds whatever their interests or abilities. The museum can offer opportunities for regular involvement in our programme of volunteering or just to get involved in one of our summer volunteering days.
